Audio Precision Announces APx Audio Software v4.6 with Chirp-Based Measurements for Smart Device Testing

Audio Precision announced the release of APx audio measurement software version 4.6, with a first public demonstration planned for the 144th International AES Convention in Milan. Included in this latest edition of the popular test software will be the ability to perform measurements using the log-swept sine chirp — such as acoustic response — in an open-loop configuration, an enhancement ideally suited to the test and evaluation of smart devices (e.g., smart speakers, smartphones).

HEAD acoustics has launched a new version of VoCAS (Voice Control Analysis System), the company’s software for evaluating voice control systems. The turnkey test solution now supports the company’s modular multi-channel labCORE front end. According to the Herzogenrath, Germany-based company, VoCAS offers manufacturers even more possibilities to test their ASR system (Automatic Speech Recognition) in vehicles, mobile phones or smart speakers objectively and reproducibly.

Parks Associates' new report "Global Connected Living Outlook: Expanding IoT Momentum" reports 27% of U.S. broadband households own at least one smart speaker, and that nearly 40% of consumers planning to purchase a smart home device find interoperability with either Amazon or Google personal assistants is important. Parks Associates's research on Home Security also reveals that 75% of home security installations in 2017 included smart control features.

Following the review of the Peerless by Tymphany PLS 2” PLS-50N25AL01-08 neodymium motor full range, in this edition of Test Bench I reviewed the 2.5" PLS-65F25AL01-08 ferrite motor full-range model. This 2.5" 8 ohm full-range member of the PLS family, the Peerless PLS-65F25AL01-08, has some differences. Unlike the PLS-50N plastic frame, the PLS-65F is built on a proprietary stamped steel frame that is fully vented below the spider mounting shelf with four 24 mm × 4 mm cutouts for enhanced cooling.
