Texas Instruments continues to expand its portfolio of USB-compliant integrated circuits (ICs) - already one of the most comprehensive in the industry - with USB Type-C and Power Delivery 3.0 devices that improve power and data transfer, signal quality, and circuit protection. According to TI, the new devices allow developers to optimize system performance with the industry’s first USB Type-C overvoltage port protector and the only redriver supporting 10G USB data and video transfer.

HDMI Releases Alternate Mode for USB Type-C Connector to Support Delivery of Native HDMI Signals to 4K/UltraHD Displays with No Adapters or Dongles

HDMI Licensing, LLC announced that it is releasing the HDMI Alternate Mode (“Alt Mode”) developed by the HDMI Founders for the USB Type-C Specification. This will allow HDMI-enabled source devices to utilize a USB Type-C connector to directly connect to HDMI-enabled displays, and deliver native HDMI signals over a simple cable without the need for cumbersome protocol and connector adapters or dongles.

USB-IF Announces a New Certified USB Charger Logo and Compliance Program

USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF), the support organization for the advancement and adoption of USB technology, announced a Certified USB Charger Compliance and Logo Program to establish USB chargers for compliant USB Type-C devices including laptops, tablets, smartphones, docking stations, displays and other products. Based upon the USB Type-C and USB Power Delivery specifications, Certified USB Chargers will display a new logo identifying the power capability in watts.

New USB Type-C Docking System Design from Texas Instruments Cuts Solution Size in Half

Texas Instruments (TI) introduced a multiport USB Type-C and Power Delivery (PD) minidock reference design that provides audio, USB data, power and video support. This new TI Designs reference design can be powered by a traditional power adapter, USB Type-C adapter or notebook computer, offering end users flexible, intelligent functionality. The reference design provides a fully tested, verified plan for a 2- by 4-inch dock, at least 50 percent smaller than existing docking solutions.
