November 2016 marks the beginning of Voice Coil’s 30th year and this issue celebrates it accordingly! The November 2016 issue is filled with great articles including a Spotlight by Mike Klasco on MEMS Microphones, and an extensive directory of Mic Capsule Vendors. In this month’s Acoustic Patents, James Croft reviews two different patents, which apparently should have been scrutinized by industry experts - and weren’t. Test Bench: B&C Speakers DE110-8 Compression Driver

The driver I examined this month was Italian Pro Sound OEM manufacturer B&C Speakers’ new high temperature polymer diaphragm DE110-8 compression driver coupled with B&C Speakers’ ME10 90° × 60° hyperbolic cosine flare horn (see Photo 1). B&C Speakers New MBX Mid-Bass Woofers Now Shipping

B&C Speakers is now shipping its new MBX Series. The new MBX series of mid-bass woofers is available in 6.5-inch, 8-inch, and 10-inch frame sizes. Designed as a solution for two way systems and multi-driver applications, the new series offer a balance between low and mid frequency reproduction, with high sensitivity for reduced amplifier current requirements. All woofers feature a neodymium ring magnet, copper-clad aluminum voice coil wire, ventilated voice coil gap, weatherproof hydrophobic paper cones, and an aluminum demodulation ring.

This Test Bench characterizes the DE1085TN driver, a new high power handling titanium diaphragm DE1085TN compression driver from Italian OEM pro sound manufacturer, B&C Speakers. The compression driver is coupled with B&C Speakers’ ME60 60 H × 40 V constant directivity cast-aluminum horn with a 0.8-kHz cutoff frequency. Test Bench B&C DE980TN-8 Compression Driver

B&C Speakers provided the DE980TN-8 — a high-performance titanium diaphragm neodymium compression driver — coupled with a ME90 horn for this Test Bench. The DE980TN is the latest version of B&C Speakers’s 75mm (3.0 in) voice coil, neodymium high frequency driver. The diaphragm in this model has been completely redesigned to incorporate a bent edge voice coil former, new dome and surround geometry and an optimized phase plug.
