Eminence Launches Tour Grade Family of Professional Audio Woofers

December 12 2019, 00:45
It was hardly a secret that Eminence was planning to shake up the pro audio industry with its new Tour Grade - American Muscle subwoofer series. After months of teasing the market and receiving a lot of market feedback, Eminence introduces the company's first pro audio high power woofer family since the 1999 release of the Eminence Kilomax series. But this time, the Tour Grade series woofers are a much more ambitious undertaking, representing an effort from the Kentucky company to define new standards in efficient low frequency reproduction.

Eminence Speaker has been specializing in the custom manufacturing of loudspeakers for the world’s most recognized professional audio and musical instrument brands since 1966. Just before InfoComm 2019, audioXpress learned that this American speaker industry stalwart had been working on the design and was getting ready to manufacture three completely new Tour Grade loudspeakers for professional audio applications. As the company reveals, the new line was developed over the past two years to support the undisputed growth of professional audio and the increasing demand for more powerful but efficient low frequency extensions. "Touring Sound professionals want to move more air, more efficiently without failures in a wide range of applications and venues," explains Chris Rose, President of Eminence.

The Tour Grade family of speakers consists of two 18” options, including the Ferrite Magnet FSW4018-8, the Neodymium Magnet NSW4018-8, and the massive Neodymium Magnet 21” NSW6021-6. The FSW4018-8 is the most powerful ceramic 18” subwoofer Eminence ever offered, with long linear excursion, extremely high power handling, contributing to top notch performance in small to large vented enclosures. The NSW4018-8 subwoofer model ("N" standing for the neodymium magnet) is the result of advanced FEA optimization tools, in an extremely long throw, lightweight, and exceptionally high power handling driver for any type of vented enclosure.

Finally, the NSW6021-6, as Eminence proudly puts it, is "arguably the best 21” subwoofer on the market," rated for 5000 watts of music program power at 6Ω (10,000W peak power!). Also the result of intensive research, use of advanced measurement systems and FEA optimization tools, the implementation of this next generation tour grade subwoofer results in what Eminence describes as "absurd, unrivaled displacement and exceptionally high power handling with top of the line performance" in any size of vented enclosures.

“Each detail of the Tour Grade range was designed in the USA to be strong, durable and achieving unrivaled performance. The series includes beautifully crafted road worthy baskets, strong motors, and designs built by hand in Eminence, Kentucky by our best loudspeaker assembly technicians,” adds Chris Rose.

Senior Design Engineer, Matt Marcum explained, “These products were designed from a clean sheet of paper using American ingenuity with the intent of there being NO compromises. This resulted in new products with unsurpassed reliability and best in class performance. If you make a living re-creating sound, you need these tools. Anything less could literally be playing with fire. Look at the NSW6021-6. It’s 6" voice coil handles more power and boasts a cleaner stroke than any other 21” pro sound option in the world.”

“Each speaker in the Tour Grade line features a true double spider rather than a silicone sandwich to ensure it produces unparalleled linear throw,” according to Jerry McNutt, Product Design Manager. "Each speaker in the series features a super strong X5 pulp material – a new USA developed technology.”

“The cones and dust caps are designed strong, light, and water resistant. We worked with our American Cone vendor to find the exact X5 pulps and treatment combinations to provide superior sonics, long-term durability, and water resistance so the show can go on in any kind of weather,” McNutt also highlighted.
