MIDI Manufacturers Association Announces MIDI 2.0 Set of Specifications

MIDI 2.0, the next-generation music and arts specification that enhances virtually all aspects of 1983’s original MIDI 1.0 spec, made its worldwide debut at the 2020 Winter NAMM show. Current MIDI users wanted more nuanced expressiveness, higher resolution, and increased ease of use, but also demanded backward compatibility with the billions of existing MIDI 1.0 devices. The suite of MIDI 2.0 specifications adopted at the Winter NAMM 2020 meeting of the MIDI Manufacturers Association delivers on those promises.

AIMS to Unveil IPMX Standards and Specifications for AV-Over-IP at ISE 2020

At ISE 2020 in Amsterdam, the Alliance for IP Media Solutions (AIMS) ProAV Working Group will introduce Internet Protocol Media Experience (IPMX), a set of open standards and specifications designed to enable carriage of compressed and uncompressed video, audio, and data over IP networks. IPMX addresses the ProAV industry's need for a single set of common, ubiquitous standards-based protocols that ensure interoperability for AV-over-IP. The AIMS stand (15-B250) will feature information and technical sessions covering every aspect of IPMX.

Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS, the inventor of mp3 and primary developer of AAC, MPEG-H Audio and other MPEG standard audio codecs, revealed that Amazon has become an important music-centric licensee of its MPEG-H audio decoder software, included in the new Echo Studio. The Audio Engineering Society (AES) Vienna 2020 convention was cancelled. Due to the COVID-19 situation, the 148th Audio Engineering Society International Audio Convention scheduled for May 25 – 28 at the Austria Center Vienna will not take place. The AES Virtual Vienna Convention in now set for June 2–5, 2020, with an online format. AES Virtual Vienna will offer a program of sessions that will be broadcast throughout the 4 days, after which they will be available on-demand, available to all registrants.
