Education: Bruce has a BS in Biology and he has taken some master’s levels courses.
Member Status: He has been reading audioXpress for a number of years.
Occupation: Bruce co-owns and is vice president of design for Oddwatt Audio. The company specializes in high-quality audio kits (mostly valve designs). Prior to that, he was a project manager for a government defense contractor.
Audio Interests: Bruce is a fan of anything analog. He enjoys designing high-end valve equipment and listening to music on vinyl.
Most Recent Purchase: Because he is willing to design and build almost anything, Bruce never knows what he might buy. However, his most recent purchase was an Audio Technica AT-33PTG/II phonographic cartridge.
Bruce Heran’s workshop
Current Audio Projects: Bruce is working on a digital remote control integrated valve preamplifier with a valve phono stage. It also has a solid-state phono preamplifier and an economy integrated valve stereo amplifier.
Dream System: Bruce’s dream system contains Martin Logan Montis speakers (he currently owns the Vistas); a pair of Martin Logan Grotto or Depth subwoofers; KT120 mono block power amplifiers of his own design (he already has them); a remote-control preamplifier of his own design with phono stage (he already has this, too); an OPPO BDP105 Blu-ray player (to replace his OPPO 83SE); a Sota Millennium Turntable (to replace the Sota Moonbeam he currently owns); and several phonograph cartridges.
Education: Electronic Engineering, University of Bologna, Italy
Occupation: Fabio is a lean production and audio expert for a big international company. He also has two small Italian audio brands and a very small top-quality vinyl label.
Member Status: Fabio said he doesn’t recall the exact year he started subscribing to the Audio Amateur publications, but he said it was sometime during the 1990s. He added that he has all the The Audio Amateur and Glass Audio issues, and now he subscribes to audioXpress.
Affiliations: He has been an Audio Engineering Society (AES) member since 2000.
Audio Interests: Fabio said he is interested in all audio aspects, from recording to speakers.
Most Recent Purchase: His most recent purchase was a Fidelity Research FR-1 mk3 phono cartridge.
Current Audio Projects: Fabio is working on a system that contains a 32-bit dac and four power amplifiers, including one big output transformer-less (OTL) amplifier, a phono preamp, a line preamplifier, and a super phantom power supply unit.
Dream System: Fabio said his dream system is a four-way speaker system with Goto Berillium diaphragms and multiamplified compression drivers. The system would also have eight mono pure triode single-ended amps and an air-bearing turntable.

Education: Aerothermal Mechanical Engineering
Occupation: Pierre worked as a technical director in an engineering company that designs and sets up large vibration systems and acoustic rooms for environmental tests. He retired in 2008.
Member Status: He first subscribed to Glass Audio in 1998 and then subscribed to audioXpress. He is a contributor to audioXpress.
Audio Interests: Pierre likes to concentrate on audio problems that he feels are not satisfactorily explained from a scientific viewpoint.
Current Audio Projects: Pierre is pursuing two areas of research. The first one studies the use of negative feedback on amplifiers and its influence on their sound. The second project focuses on audio transformer behavior and its audio specifications.
Dream System: Pierre said the solutions currently proposed by the audio industry fall short of his concept for a dream system. Until improvements are made, he said he is content to listen “with great pleasure” to his 42-year-old system, which comprises an ESART IS200 tuner-amplifer (with 40 W per channel), a vintage Thorens TD160 LP player equipped with an ADC XLM MKII cartridge, and two KEF 104 Reference Series loudspeakers.
Pierre said the system is perfect for classical music lovers. He added that he never listens to CDs because of their “cold sound and their questionable recording techniques.” Pierre only listens to 33-1/3 vinyl LPs recorded using an artificial head equipped with two microphones because he finds it is still the closest to hi-fi stereo reproduction.
Occupation: Audio engineer, technical author, professional musician, and co-owner of RealTraps, a popular acoustic treatment manufacturer
Member Status: He has subscribed to audioXpress for approximately seven years.
Affiliations: Ethan does not currently hold official memberships with any audio organizations.
Audio Interests: Ethan is interested in all aspects of audio and music, but especially acoustics, and how fidelity is defined.
Most Recent Purchase: A Focusrite Scarlett 8i6 USB sound card
Current Audio Projects: Ethan has just completed creating a 2.5 hour music theory video course, “Basic Music Theory.” (The course is available for free on YouTube )
Dream System: He said he has his dream systems. Yes, plural. Ethan has two systems: A large home recording studio (two channel), and a 5.1 home theater in his living room. He said the key to excellence with both systems is more in the acoustic treatment of the rooms than the specific gear.
Location: North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Education: Garth has a BA and an LLB from the University of British Columbia and a certificate from King’s College London University, London, England.
Occupation: Retired barrister and solicitor (a lawyer)
Member Status: He has subscribed to audioXpress since 2005.
Affiliations: He currently holds no official memberships with any audio organizations.
Audio Interests: Garth said he is most interested in classical music.
Most Recent Purchase: A digital multimeter that measures inductance and capacitance
Current Audio Projects: Garth said he has just completed two 100-W, push-pull El34 amplifiers with output transformers that Doc Hoyer designed and built.
Dream System: He said the system would include a couple 100-W amplifiers with a good preamp, a good turntable, and Klipsch horn enclosures. He would also add a quality FM tuner, digital inputs, and a large TV with good sound input. Garth said he doesn’t care too much about surround sound, but he admitted that he does have a couple 50s he could use with his dream system. “Obviously, I would want two more Klipsch horns there, too,” he added.
